Dr. Didier Dietschi

Dr Didier Dietschi graduated from the University of Geneva Dental School, Switzerland, in 1984, where he completed specialty training in periodontology and restorative dentistry. He held the positions of assistant, lecturer, and senior lecturer at the same university, where he received his doctoral title in 1988 under the supervision of Prof Jacques Holz and a Privat-Docent degree in 2004. He earned his PhD in 2003 at the Academic Centre for Dentistry in Amsterdam, Netherlands, under the guidance of Prof Carel Davidson. In 1990, he started a part-time practice in a private office in Geneva limited to esthetic restorative dentistry with a focus on soft tissue management and implantology. Since 2005, he has held the position of adjunct professor at Case Western Reserve University (USA) and maintained his part-time senior lecturer position at the University of Geneva in the Department of Cariology and Endodontics headed by Prof Ivo Krejci. Dr Dietschi has won numerous awards for his contributions to adhesive restorative dentistry. He is an active lecturer author, journal reviewer, and industry consultant and has contributed to significant improvements in the field of composite shading with the development of the so-called “Natural Layering Concept”. He coauthored the book Adhesive Metal-Free Restorations, edited in 1997 by Quintessence and translated into seven languages. His new textbook entitled “TOOTH WEAR – Interceptive treatment approach with minimally invasive protocols” has been launched June 2023. Dr Dietschi is internationally acclaimed for his theoretical and practical teaching programs focused on adhesive and esthetic restorations with the integration of scientific evidence and implementation of new technologies in the field of minimally invasive esthetic dentistry applied to the restorations of anterior and posterior teeth.

SYNOPSIS
Adhesive Posterior Restorations : Biomechanics, Esthetics and Function in Sinergy
a guide to biomechanical, functional and aesthetic success
The reduction in the carious disease incidence and the growing concern of patients for potential toxicity of metals and dental aesthetics, have called the profession for developing restorative options adapted to new demands. Composites and adhesive techniques have then become the foundation of modern restorative dentistry, following tremendous improvements in material mechanical performances, wear resistance and aesthetic potential. Composite resins are currently used in a broad range of situations, including the treatment of initial decays to the restoration of extended and serial cavities, including the aesthetic and functional rehabilitation of patients with severe tooth wear. However, polymerisation shrinkage of the resin matrix and in-mouth material application still are crucial issues which impose certain limitations to the use of direct techniques. Therefore, other restorative options such as semidirect (Mostly CAD-CAM today) and indirect techniques must be considered for large and deep cavity configurations or non-vital teeth. The lecture will overview decision criteria for the treatment of posterior teeth with direct, semi-direct and indirect technique, with great focus on material’s choice.

New, improved concepts related to tooth preparation and cavity lining, as well as luting procedures will be presented, which lead to a simplification of clinical procedures and superior results in semidirect or indirect composite or ceramic restorations. The material choice in consideration to tooth biomechanical status will be discussed in detail with special focus on the cervical margin location.
The program will provide a comprehensive description of related clinical protocols and long-term follow-up, with relevant scientific evidences.
